The way Gabriel’s composition style has matured between releases really stands out — every track on this album feels tighter and more adventurous than his earlier stuff.

I've played this album front to back at least a dozen times since it arrived, and Mervine's trumpet lines on the slower tracks keep pulling me back. It's rare that a 2021 release feels this lived-in already, but the compositions really do show an artist who's grown.

The horn arrangements on this record have a warmth I wasn't expecting, and the slower tracks are where it really shines. Been spinning it most evenings with dinner lately.
