Live al Nocturne

I've been spinning the DSD layer of this SACD on repeat all weekend and the trumpet tone is just ridiculously lifelike — you can hear the room around the notes. The Gold disc itself feels substantial, no flimsy packaging here. Easily the best-sounding live jazz recording in my collection right now.

Didn't expect the DSDDirect mastering to make this much of a difference, but the horns on the second track sound like they're right in the room. The Gold SACD layer is noticeably cleaner than my old redbook copy.

The DSDDirect mastered CD layer sounds incredibly clean through my DAC, way better than the standard streaming version I'd been listening to. Mervine's trumpet has this warm, room-filling presence that makes it feel like you're sitting in the front row. Been spinning it every evening since it arrive
