Audiophiles seem to always be chasing after the best jazz recordings they can find and we don't often find them recorded in DSD256. We decided to take matters into our own hands here at Octave Records and recreate some of the jazz classics that are well-known and well-loved across time. Jazz Classics: 1950s kicks off our mission of recording some of our favorite jazz compositions in high-quality DSD. Recorded at Octave Studios by Paul McGowan, this collection of music captures some of the best of the 1950s.

The DSD256 transfer makes a real difference on horns—Miles' muted trumpet has this breathy texture I've never caught on my old CDs. Been playing it back to back all weekend and finding new details each pass.

Lily ★★★★★

I've bought a lot of remastered jazz over the years and most of it sounds compressed and flat. This one actually breathes — the horns on the 1950s sessions have real air around them.

The DSD256 transfer on this is the real deal — you can hear the room, the breath on the horn, all of it. I've been collecting 1950s jazz for years and this is the cleanest I've heard these sides.
